6 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins [sexual immorality, impurity, and greed], for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. 7 Don’t participate in the things these people do.
-Ephesians 5:6-7, NLT
How many people allow themselves to be fooled by cheaters and their “justifications”?
Now, I am not talking about those of us who were fooled unwittingly. I am talking about those who willfully choose to remain “neutral” on the matter of the obvious infidelity.
They seem to prefer the lies and thereby partnership with the liar than to confronting the sexual immorality of their “friend.”
The Apostle Paul makes it clear in these verses that such people are not following God’s wishes.
Strangely, I find this encouraging.
On a gut-level, I think every faithful spouse understands this concept. We get that people siding with the cheater’s justifications is not behaving in a godly manner. However, they might use “Christian-ese” to confuse us on the matter.
So, I appreciate that the Apostle Paul lays this principle out so clearly:
There ought to be no room among God’s people for partnering with a liar trying to justify his or her sexual immorality–which includes adultery.
