3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
-2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV
A divorced pastor is an asset.
Some churches might not even consider a pastor who has been divorced. While I agree if the divorce was caused by the cheating of a pastor, I think that is wise. Not all divorced pastors are such based on their sins.
A wise church will see an infidelity abuse survivor as an asset for their pastoral team.
Instead of viewing this pastor as a liability, they could bring much needed wisdom to the team. After all, the experience of divorce from unfaithful spouses is not uncommon in society, sadly. This pastor can speak to how their faith helped them through such an experience.
Hiring such a pastor also is a statement to other faithful spouses–namely, they are welcome in this church!
It is also a statement that this church does not shame and blame faithful spouses for divorcing their Cheater. If they did, they wouldn’t hire a pastor who was divorced from his Cheater.
A divorced faithful spouse pastor is a fantastic asset for a church as they have had to live their faith through a fiery trial. They can speak into difficult matters in ways the never divorced cannot. This alone is a good reason to hire them.
