Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away [i.e. divorce her] privily.
-Matthew 1:19, KJV
If you grew up in a church where divorce was taught as always wrong, you may find it hard to NOT internalize divorce shame and stigma.
I know I did and do.
It is a battle. Yet the biblical thing is to reject such shame and stigma as a faithful spouse.
Divorce shame is NOT yours to bear!
As the verse out of Matthew shows, we are in the camp of the righteous who did not tolerate adultery. We divorced the (suspected in that case) unfaithful party. That is not shameful behavior. Rather, the Bible praises that behavior for all generations!
