For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
-Hebrews 10:30-31, NIV
Cheaters may hate hearing God’s Word, because it convicts them of their sins.
They hate the reminder of the wrongness of their actions. This might lead to them raging against the faithful spouse who dares quote such Scripture denouncing adultery.
Cheaters are misdiagnosing the source of their pain.
It is isn’t the person who quotes Scripture that is causing the pain. Rather, it is their conscience getting seared as they know what they are doing is wrong. Scripture simply cuts through their excuses like a hot knife through butter.
The saddest part of all of this is how God’s grace in allowing them to feel pain is not received as such and utilized as motivation to repent.
Instead, Cheaters try to bury their pain via attempting to silence their infidelity victims. They choose to blame the pain on their victims speaking out the truth. Cheaters often double down on their sins, unfortunately.
It burns.
But the burning is an internal warning that their actions are outside of God’s will for their life. Sadly, they think it is an external cause and all the burning to eventually silence their own consciences.
