Cannot put the genie back in the bottle

For the woman’s jealous husband will be furious,
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.

-Proverbs 6:34, NLT

In the early stages post-discovery, it is natural to try to wake up from the “bad dream.” Unfortunately, you will learn–painfully–that the genie cannot go back into that bottle.

If you are at all like I was, you want things to go back to “the way they were.” The sad thing is that “the way they were” never actually existed. Your Cheater was already tainting that with their lies and double life.

You may know this cognitively, but grief is an emotional process.

Your body is kindly giving you time before the horror truly connects between your head and your heart. But one day it will if you allow it.

You will heal as long as you face reality. This is why I believe Cheaters are doomed to a hell of their own making as they live lies and false realities. Truth sets us free. Lies bind us and make us sick.

We must walk in the light even if that exposes unpleasant truths.

A true friend understands this and supports us during this hard time by speaking truth as opposed to false, hopeful things. The genie has left the bottle and is not going back into it.

We must go forward with knowledge that we cannot un-know.
