Cheater-Speak: “I was just trying to get your attention.”

“I was just trying to get your attention. That is all that this affair is about.”

-Cheater

This is another diversionary trick Cheaters do.

They drop a line like this and watch as counselors and/or pastors divert their attention away from the affair towards the faithful spouse’s “flaws.” Sadly, this ploy has a reasonable chance of success in our churches.

The stupidity of the statement rarely is called out with the cheater.

There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to get someone’s attention.

You can get someone’s attention by stabbing them in the leg with a knife. This will likely earn you a trip to jail. I doubt the judge will be amused by your excuse that the stabbing was merely to gain your victim’s attention.

The same goes for affairs. They are more damaging than a physical wound, in my opinion. The effects linger on for years and decades. Having an affair is NEVER appropriate!

Do not fall for the red herring that the cheater is waving around!

They need to face the inappropriate and sinful nature of their choices and actions. Anything less is failing them and certainly, failing the faithful spouse.
