Contentment Secret

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

-Philippians 4:12b, NIV

When I am tempted to spiral into resentment (or start going there), I am reminded of an important spiritual secret:

Gratitude is a great antidote to resentment.

Maybe you wonder what you have that is worth giving thanks for? You are upset about all the real injustices in your situation.

Well, if you are reading this, you are very blessed, indeed!

-First, you are still breathing. Life is a precious gift.

-Second, you were provided an education enabling you to read. Not everyone is given that.

-Third, you have access to electronics that allow you to read this. That is a gift. 

Those are just three examples of things you can give thanks for to God. I know you have more.

For what (or whom) are you thankful for today?

Gratitude reorients our hearts to a place where we can appreciate the grace of God all around us. It does not make the injustices go away; however, it takes away the power of darkness to torment us continuously with those injustices, in my opinion (and experience).
