Death of hope

I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.

-I Corinthians 15:3, NLT

Death of hope

They had all sorts of plans for Jesus. He was going to overthrow their oppressors, the Romans. Then he was going to reign the world from Jerusalem.

Such were their dreams.

Such were their hopes.

Those hopes died on a cross 2,000 years ago….

Sometimes our hope in a certain future has to die in order to make way for the future God has for us. This is a lesson from the Cross.

Jesus’ followers had a hope for him that did not involve a cross. This hope died a brutal death on that first Good Friday roughly 2,000 years ago.

As faithful spouses, we know a thing or two of death of hopes and dreams. I know I do.

Yet I want to encourage you this Good Friday. God allows our false hope to die in order to give us a better hope in Him. My experience has proven this to be true.

Does God restore? Yes, I have a wonderful family that I never would have had remaining with my Cheater.

However, I had to let go of a false hope in my first marriage for something even better to unfold. That hope had to die first. I had to face the reality that my first marriage was dead via my Cheater’s infidelity.

Then I had to trust God would handle the rest. He wasn’t surprised and His glorious plan for me would not be thwarted by one Cheater. As I like to remind people, He is a good bet!
