I was feeling good going into the meet on Saturday; warmed up benching 685lbs and 715lbs with no problems. Then I could not nail my opener weight (340kbs/749lbs) on the platform.
It was disappointing, but it happens.
The “failures” give us clear ideas of where to work. So, it was far from a complete loss. Plus, I am not more experienced when it comes to meet to know when to have them re-rack the weight (my first attempt was doomed from its poor hand-off, imo).
The record of 845lbs still stands. But that ought to be expected. This record has stood in this weight lifting federation for over a decade for good reason! It is hard to press that much weight.
This experience just means I get more time to train and prepare to take it on my way to 1,000lbs.
