Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
-Matthew 7:4, NKJV
A faithful spouse choosing to divorce a cheater is not taking the “easy way out!”
It is disgusting that a follower of Christ would ever suggest such a thing. They are speaking from a place of callous indifference to the soul rape victim’s trauma.
I do not know of any faithful spouse who chose divorce from a cheater who went into their marriage hoping for a divorce. They were confronted with the abuse of their partner and decided not to tolerate such sin exercising their biblical right to end the marriage legally.
Divorce is hard.
It comes with all sort of loses. No sane person goes into a marriage hoping to get divorced. It is an ending that is painful. However, like an amputation, sometimes a painful surgery is necessary to preserve life.
Pastors and Christians need to understand a faithful spouse is taking a courageous stance against evil by choosing this difficult path of divorcing a cheater.
They ought to be applauded for choosing divorce, not condemned (see Mt 1:19). It is isn’t easy to face one’s losses and choose not to tolerate the soul-destroying sins of a cheater.
Divorce for a faithful spouse is a mercy. As such, Christians ought to praise it; not call it an “easy way out!”
