This past weekend I competed in a bench press event in IL. I had to go alone since it was a busy weekend on the home front with a birthday party and prom for our kiddo and bonus kiddo.
While Mrs. DM was fine with me competing this weekend, she was concerned about how I would approach the competition. The evening before I departed I discussed what I was thinking about attempting that Saturday. I may have mentioned potentially attempting over 900 pounds to which Mrs. DM replied:
“Don’t die! I don’t want a call about you being in the hospital on our daughter’s birthday (party day).”
This was a completely reasonable thing to suggest since I would know no one at this meet. So, I was at their mercy for spotting me. I agreed to keep it within my normal training range and not push it like a 900 pounds bench would.
I kept my promise and “only” benched 350kgs/771lbs, which is easily in my normal training range.
The kind of sweet thing about all this is that I felt Mrs. DM’s love. She didn’t want me to die 😉 How touching!
Some people might take that for granted in a partner. Yet I suspect many of us, faithful spouses, can truly appreciate even that basic expression of care.
Don’t die! #truelove
