Even Jesus accepted the fact of rejection

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.”

-Matthew 23:37, NLT

Jesus wanted to see the Jewish people turn to him.

We see this in this verse out of Matthew. He was seeking to protect his people. One might even say that Jesus was pursuing them.

Yet the people rejected him.

I think this is a very important point to see for people dealing with cheaters. Often times, the cheater rejects all overtures to come back and shun other suitors.

In this verse, we see Jesus modeling true, tough love:

We need to accept the fact of rejection, and move forward with our lives.

It may grieve us as it did Jesus. However, godly love lets people make choices–even bad ones like cheating and abandoning the marriage under the cloud of such sin.

Accepting the rejection as fact and moving on with one’s life is not a failure on your part. It is not an indictment on your Christianity. Jesus, after all, did not always receive a loving response from the people he pursued.

That said, it is a sign of maturity to accept the reality of difficult choices of others.
