Then Saul admitted to Samuel, “Yes, I have sinned. I have disobeyed your instructions and the Lord’s command, for I was afraid of the people and did what they demanded.”
-I Samuel 15:24, NLT
Feeling Bad Is Not Enough
Even though Saul called his disobedience sin, God did not accept this late and lame confession–(notice the blame-shifting going on?!). Saul still suffered the consequences for his disobedience.
The royal line would no longer remain in his house. God would give it to another–i.e. King David.
God demands holiness and obedience.
This is one example where just simply calling something a sin is not enough. God did not accept the blame-shifting, weak statement of Saul as enough. Saul had blown it.
He was caught red-handed in his sin, and he still made excuses. Ring a bell for anyone?
This all goes back to the point that repentance requires action. It requires action. As the saying goes, words are cheap.
If a cheater feels truly convicted by his or her sin, the cheater can take actions to serve the ones they have wronged. It begins by giving a full account of what was done. No more nasty secrets.
And when tempted to blame-shift onto the faithful spouse for his or her sin, I remind you such a tactic did not go over so well for King Saul.
