Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
-Mark 4:38, NIV
“Don’t you care?!”
Tomorrow, I am preaching from this passage. It is the passage in Mark where Jesus and his disciples are crossing storm tossed waters (see Mark 4:35-41).
Jesus is found sleeping while the disciples are in a state of panic. They think they are about to all drown. Jesus wakes up rebukes the storm, it calms, and then he rebukes his disciples for a lack of faith.
Epic story.
I don’t know about you, but I relate to those disciples. It is hard to have faith sometimes when a very real storm threatens our lives and well-being.
My heart cry sometimes is: “Do you care?!”
I believe one of the lessons of this story is that God does care. In fact, it is ridiculous to think otherwise.
Over and over, I have seen God show up in my life when I struggled with this question about Him. God cares. He cares very, very much!
The question really is whether we are willing to have a little faith and trust Him with our storm (and our hearts). I assure you; it is worth it.
