Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
-2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV
I am grateful for faithful spouses who opened up to me about their own painful experience.
The church is especially cruel to people who dare open up on such matters. It is sad but true.
Some people take such a sharing as license to judge your healing or question your “progress” in “forgiving” your ex. In other words, it is a risk to open up one’s heart and share such matters.
And I am thankful for those who did just that for me. So, I–in turn–am doing likewise here on Divorce Minister.
It helps to know the playbook common to cheaters. Chump Lady was especially helpful to me in teaching me that (Warning: Chump Lady is a potty mouth site that is “street smart” on matters of cheaters).
Even though I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy, it was comforting to know I am not alone (or crazy) in how I have experienced this trauma. Others walked this same painful road and come out on the other side thriving!
And by God’s grace, I am one who can also claim that thriving post adultery discovery title!
My point is to encourage you to share your story when you feel led to do so. You may never know the full impact of such a courageous act.
