Grateful God Condemns Adultery

God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.

-Hebrews 13:4b, NLT

God is love….

-I John 4:16b, KJV

If God does not condemn anything, can God real be loving?

I do not think so. That is why I am grateful God does condemn adultery as evil (see Deut. 22:22). Such condemnation is an expression of love for His creation. Often in the USA, we view condemnation and love as mutually exclusive. We sometimes fail to see this important relationship as mutually related and important.

In relationship terms, if I had a friend who was sexually assaulted and I was “neutral” towards that assault, that friend would have good reason to doubt whether I was a true, loving friend.

Condemnation of wrong and evil done to someone is a sign of true love.

This is true even for the cheater. A truly loving friend will condemn the behavior in an effort to help the cheater from self-destructive behavior. Spiritually speaking, the cheater is playing with fire. A good friend condemns such “fire” play.

We serve a good and loving God. This is shown in His condemnation of adultery. I am glad God condemns.

How about you?
