Gratitude and getting gifts from God

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

-Psalm 107:1, NIV

When we practice gratitude, we position our hearts to receive gifts from God.

A fist raised at God is not a hand ready to receive God’s peace and love. It is a hand that is saying it knows better than its Creator.

If we open our hearts to God’s presence and goodness, we will find we have much over which to show gratitude. But this is work…especially when in the darkness of infidelity discovery and all the catastrophic loses that come with that discovery.

The old song at the top of this post has it right about how to weather storms, though. It is a matter of practicing noticing the gifts we do have!

Count our blessings. Name them one by one.

This helps us combat our tendency to try and control our lives. Our hearts need opening. God knows this. It is why He instructs us in the Bible to practice this discipline of gratitude.

If you find yourself in a life storm, I recommend you try it today! Name your blessings…one by one.
