But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.
-I Corinthians 7:15, NKJV
Today is July 4th when Americans celebrate our independence.
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind my readers of their freedom. They are free to divorce a cheater (see Mt 19:9) and free to divorce a spouse who has abandoned them (see I Corinthians 7:15).
These are freedoms granted by the Bible for faithful spouses.
Now, some religious people do not like others having such freedom. They want to control faithful spouses.
It does not change the fact of these freedoms given by God to deal with difficult situations involving marriage ending sins.
You have these freedoms. I am thankful many I know have never had to exercise these freedoms. But I am also thankful I was provided these freedoms when I needed them. They are a mercy to those in sore need of mercy.
