“Here I stand; I can do no other.”
– Martin Luther
On this day five hundred years ago, Martin Luther famously nailed his 95 theses to the doors of Wittenberg church.
Many mark this as the beginning of the Protestant Reformation(s). One man and his sincerely held convictions transformed the world. October 31st, 1517 was a watershed moment.
One door.
One nail.
One paper.
95 written theses.
How does this relate to surviving infidelity?
This moment reminds us that one (very flawed) person willing to stand on their convictions can literally change the world. That is what happened with Martin Luther.
I encourage you this Reformation Day to think about your own values and convictions.
Write them down.
What abuses–like the selling of indulgences for Martin Luther–are you willing to condemn?
Do you have convictions that you are willing to declare to world and defend come what may?
Maybe your theses do not number 95? Maybe they do not start a world revolution? But do not underestimate the power of standing on your convictions.
It may be start of your own personal reformation.
