Hates “workers of iniquity?!”

The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

-Psalm 5:5-6, NKJV

“Hate” is a strong word.

Yet this is the word the Psalmist uses to describe how God feels about “ALL” who work wickedness. The picture in these verses is God acting in absolute opposition those who scheme with arrogance and evil intent.

I find that intense anger comforting.

God would not be good if He was not moved by evil. Anger shows that God loves us, truly. Anger is the flip-side of love. It tells us that the person who loves us is willing to defend us.

In these cases, God is angry as a sign of God’s righteousness and goodness. He hates what destroys what is good.

And God will not be mocked. I find this comforting as well. Those that scheme will not escape His wrath.
