I’ve been doing some sort of weight training since I was thirteen years old.
It is something I enjoy as a hobby. I find it exciting to see how far I can push my body, and watch as I make gains from hard work in the weight room.
These days I have been working with a trainer and discovering the world of equipped bench press. It is a new world for me as a weight trainer having only started on this journey in equipped lifting about a year ago.
For those who are unaware, raw (without equipment) and equipped lifting are really two different sports.
The best way to describe the difference is to make an analogy as my trainer would. It is like the difference between high jump (raw) and pole vaulting (equipped).
Just because you are a world-class high jumper does not necessarily mean you will be a world-class pole vaulter. The difference is more than simply have a pole or not. The sports take different skill sets even though both are about clearing one’s body over a bar.
Why talk about weight training on a blog about taking adultery seriously?
Hobbies are important to covering from the trauma of infidelity discovery. I think they help us heal and embrace how uniquely God has made us. Plus, they are a blessed distraction from the stress.
I would encourage you to engage in your own hobby or two:
Maybe you enjoy scrap-booking? Maybe marathon running is your thing? Maybe wood-working engages you?
Congratulations on reaching your benchmark. That’s amazing. Godspeed for your next lifting goal.
