I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
-Psalm 139:14, KJV
One of my hobbies is powerlifting.
I have been lifting weights for over two decades. In high school, I never would have thought someone could bench press 500 pounds. That seemed out of the realm of possibilities.
Personally, I was striving to bench press 315 pounds (which I achieved in high school).
Why am I posting about this on an adultery survivor blog?
Part of surviving this stuff is having hobbies and goals. Having physical goals are especially good as exercise is good for both the mind and body.
Some people run triathlons, others marathons, some play tennis tournaments, but I lift heavy weights.
Another part of the healing process is embracing who we are with love and acceptance. This, too, is reflected in choosing such a goal.
I will never be a world class marathon runner.
However, I am able to move a lot of weight on the bench press. I am at peace with that. In fact, I embrace it.
Today was a big day for me (in a non-USA election way).
I lifted 500 pounds (roughly 227 kilograms) for the first time!
In fact, I lifted it for a set of three!! It was equipped (meaning I was using some bands–aka equipment–across my chest in doing this). However, I am grateful for hard work paying off.
What are your goals? Do you have a fitness goal you want to achieve?
Just because you have experienced this trauma does not mean you are less than fearfully and wonderfully made!
