And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
-Romans 8:28, KJV
I know this verse is twisted against faithful spouses all too often.
Well-meaning yet hurtful Christians quote this verse at the traumatized faithful spouse as a means to manipulate them away from divorcing an unrepentant cheater. I am sorry if this happened to you.
Please do not allow the good news from this verse be drained through its abuse by others!
What I take these words to tell me is that God can accomplish good even if we are experiencing evil. God redeems even the worst of our experiences. He, certainly, has done that for me!
Good is coming!
That is a shorthand for the message I see in Romans 8:28. It is a clarion call to those in tough circumstances that good is around the corner. God is not going to waste your suffering. It matters.
Now, that good could mean a new life without a spouse. Or it might mean, in time, a new spouse and family. God knows.
What is important is to hold onto hope and the truth that God is working good for you who love Him!
