And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
-John 19:42, NLT
How were the Disciples feeling on the day after the execution of Jesus? Holy Saturday.
I imagine a great deal of disbelief. The death of more than a man had just occurred.
Their “employment” of the past two or three years had just been “terminated.” What were they to do without Jesus to follow?
Their dreams of Jesus liberating them from the Romans was buried with Jesus’ body. How could they have been so wrong?
Their investment of years of their lives in the cause of Jesus seemed foolish now. Why did they give themselves so freely to this man?
You get the picture.
When you go through marital infidelity discovery, Holy Saturday takes on added meaning. For me, I love Holy Saturday as the darkness is where I was living for months following my (now ex) wife’s infidelity. It was comforting knowing others had trod a similar path.
Holy Saturday is dark, but we know Easter weekend does not end with Holy Saturday!
The good news of Easter is that God gives us hope for hopelessness. Even the finality of death is not final in His Kingdom.
Nothing–that is NO THING–can triumph over the purposes of God!
I want to encourage you this Holy Saturday. Things may look very dark and hopeless right now in your life. Just remember that no situation is hopeless when God is involved.
