“Rebuke your mother, rebuke her,
for she is not my wife,
and I am not her husband.
Let her remove the adulterous look from her face
and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.”-Hosea 2:2, NIV
Horrors of Infidelity Abuse!
Often times, the topic of divorce is taught from the pulpit as the ultimate horror house. This is NOT a biblical teaching as God Himself engaged in a divorce (see Jeremiah 3:8). Divorce shaming is ungodly.
I wish pastors would instead focus their horror stories towards the real culprit of such marriages ending–namely, sinful infidelity abuse.
They could talk about sleepless nights, suicidal depression*, cheater gaslighting, financial abuse, anxiety induced vomiting, legal trauma, and all the horrors of children caught in the middle. These are the less than sexy images of infidelity. They are the cost innocents pay for another’s–namely, the Cheater’s–sins.
It is a horror story many of us here have lived.
Divorce ends this horror experience–to some degree. It isn’t worse than this horror show, in my opinion. Divorce is a God-given mercy to the faithful party.
So, instead of railing against divorce, how about railing against the horrors of infidelity abuse?!
