How long will my enemy triumph over me?
-Psalm 13:2b, NIV
When enduring the many injustices of marriage infidelity discovery, this is a common refrain of the heart.
Life is very unfair.
It seems like the cheater is “getting away with it.” The cheater seems so happy. They are get the thrills and you are gutted left with the pieces of your life. They knew they were cheating. You are left playing catch up to their scheming.
It is so unjust!
I am so glad this Psalm is in the Bible. It echoes the heart of those suffering under oppression. The Bible speaks the heart of those enduring injustice.
It is real.
This Psalm continues to verse five when the Psalmist speaks of trusting in God’s unfailing love. In the end, we have a choice to make about God in our situation:
Will we trust He is good worthy of our trust or do we seek to play god thinking we know better?
I encourage you to choose the former. It is hard. Faith–real faith–is usually hard work. But it is worth it. I testify to that! God is good and worthy of our trust even–and especially–when we are full of the lament:
“How long, O Lord?!”
He can handle our lament.
