4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
-Psalm 23:4-5, KJV (emphasis mine)
I hate conflict.
So, these words from that famous Psalm does not feel me with the greatest peace. I would much prefer a table far from my enemies… not in their midst.
Yet, I trust God’s wisdom in these words.
He knows what He is doing.
Just as I did not want to confront my ex-wife over her cheating, I did it anyways (when the pastor would not). I look back on that as a mercy from God that He had me do it.
Something is powerful about having peace in the midst of our enemies. The Kingdom is within… and our enemies cannot take that Kingdom power from us.
I do not know what you are facing today. Maybe you are surrounded by deceitful and hurtful people currently?
Do not forget verse 4’s promise of God’s presence. We are never facing our enemies alone.
