25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
-Luke 12:25-26, NIV
Sometimes, I find myself trying to control something outside of my control.
Usually, this takes the form of worrying. I am pretty practiced at tormenting myself with a bad case of the “what-ifs.”
What I am slowly learning is how wasted such efforts are (as Jesus suggests in Luke 12).
Today, I dealt with a situation that normally would have put me in an anxious downward spiral. This time around I told myself to not worry about what I can do nothing about and trust that God would help me deal with it if it turned out so bad. I had to believe God had equipped me (or would equip me) to deal with whatever happened, and I left it at that.
Funny thing:
The situation turned out better than I could have imagined.
My faith grew today. And I did not spend an evening last night in anxious, worrying misery. It was a win-win for me.
My encouragement to you today is to let go of those things you do not control (like how your cheater might respond to things). Learn to trust God will help you when or if you need the help in the moment.
Then enjoy the present moment.
Stop allowing the enemy to steal your joy by harassing you with fears that might never come true.
