Making a money transfer is no more a sin than divorce.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

-I Timothy 6:10, NIV

Divorce is not sin.

It is like transferring money from one account to another. The act itself is not a sin.

However, the context might change whether or not that act is sin.

If you are transferring money illegally from someone’s account without their knowledge, that is called theft. It is a sin.

Similarly, if you are divorcing a spouse to discard them in order to just marry and sleep with a more attractive (to you) alternative, that is adultery. It is a sin.

Just because someone transferred funds does not necessarily tell you whether or not this person sinned by such a transfer.

Similarly, just because one is divorced does not necessarily tell you whether or not this person sinned by getting divorced.

I wish more Christians understood this basic biblical perspective on divorce. It would alleviate considerable suffering for divorced Christians who are unjustly shamed for their godly divorce.
