Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”
-Luke 1:28, NLT
Merry Christmas!
Whether this is truly a day of celebration or merely a day to endure, I think much is present to encourage. Both was the case on the first Christmas.
It was not all singing angels and wonderfulness.
A hungry baby Jesus probably screamed his head off despite what the carol says. He was FULLY human. And that is what human babies do.
Poor Mary had to deal with a community that viewed her like a whore. They could do the math. That baby wasn’t supposed to be there.
Joseph came across to that same community as either too eager or as cuckold husband. Neither fits with his righteous reputation.
However, they knew the truth no matter the narrative others tried to force fit upon them.
Whatever you Christmas is like today, know that you are not alone. Plenty of us have experienced crummy Christmastimes. However, I would encourage you to be like Mary and Joseph.
Cling to the TRUE narrative about you!
