“I only cheated to get your attention,” says Cheater.
Cheaters who say this are shifting blame onto their victims for their abusive sins. It is wicked.
I could get your attention by shooting you in the foot. Saying I did this to get your attention does not excuse this behavior or make it acceptable in anyway. Focusing on why I felt I needed to get your attention misses the point:
Shooting someone is not acceptable behavior!
Cheating is not acceptable behavior either.
Cheating is not a healthy way to bring up marriage issues. We would not allow a rage-filled husband get away with this line of reasoning for why he punched his wife. We should not allow this for any Cheater, either.
It demonstrates contempt for your spouse and entitlement to turn the blame onto the faithful spouse after the fact.
Curiosity ought to be less about the faithful spouse’s behavior and more about ensuring the Cheater stops abusive behavior like cheating and lying.
