“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires…When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
-John 8:44a,c, NIV
“Not telling” (about the adulterous affair) is simply “lying” by another name.
I think Satan has a heyday with this lie. He has convinced many people into thinking that it is better to keep the faithful spouse in the dark about the affair(s).
In fact, one version of this demonic lie tells the Cheater he or she is being noble by not telling. Their lying is for the faithful spouse’s benefit. What a load of bovine excrement!
That is what withholding information about the affair is: LYING!
It is not noble.
Framing it this way is another way to bring clarity to situations where Cheaters like ambiguity to hide their immorality. It calls it for what it is.
Stripped of its deceptive armor, the Cheater is faced with the reality that the choice is about whether to continue lying and deceiving or not. Some will choose to continue lying. But that is what they are doing. They aren’t being morally noble.
Finally, it is out of place for a child of God to live lies as the advice to “not tell” directs. You are behaving as a member of another father when following such advice!
