Probably will always touch my heart….

It happened again today.

I was watching a reality TV show, and the owner of a restaurant shared his story of divorce from the mother of his children who cheated on him with a younger man, a teenager!

He discovered his then wife’s infidelity when she became pregnant even though he had had a vasectomy.

This brought tears to my eyes.

The cruelty and wickedness of people is truly awful. What a horrible way to discover such wretched behavior!

Sadly, this sort of behavior is not unique. It just is usually hidden away from our conversations, especially in the church.

Pastors will lament divorce rates. Yet so often they do not share the devastating stories about infidelity like this one.

Faithful spouses are invisible. Or if they are visible, they are shamed for the divorce resulting from the adulterous abuses of  their cheating spouse.

I find it disgusting and cruel. It is not godly. God weeps with faithful spouses, after all.

These stories will probably always touch my heart. Like cold weather causing old broken (and healed) bones to ache, these stories touch my deep soul wounds.

And I am not ashamed of that.

Our hearts ought to break for those whose hearts have been broken in such a way. That is embodying God’s heart for them.

And that is a good thing, indeed.
