-I Corinthians 6:18, NIV
A popular Country song is about using another person for sex in a one night stand.
The song is “One Night Standards” by Ashley McBryde:
I find this song extremely saddening.
What an incredibly sad and devaluing take on human sexuality!
It is debasing everyone both mentioned in the song and those in the wings (like a faithful spouse and the kids). This is the opposite of a biblical ethic of sexuality. It illustrates what sexual immorality looks like.
Plus, I think this song illustrates how debasing sex in this sense is. It treats sex like just another bodily appetite. However, it is far more than that. At least, that is what Scripture teaches.
As I quote at the beginning of this post, sexual immorality is a sin against one’s own body. It has deeper impact than other sins in that sense. To treat sex like one’s hunger for food is to deny this moral and spiritual reality.
