No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
-Matthew 6:24, KJV
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”
-Matthew 6:24, NLT
When money is the greatest concern for a relationship, then you may have worship issues.
Jesus understood our human tendency to rely upon ourselves. He warned against looking towards money as the solution for our security and well-being as opposed to God. That is what I see in this warning out of Matthew 6.
Anger around property and money issues also might reveal the true “god” of someone.
They aren’t moved by kindness or cruelty. What moves them is when you ask for a fair share of the property when ending the relationship. They get upset when you DARE require an equitable split!
Cheaters take your fidelity as given. They do not value it. But they DO value assets and money!
