He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
-Matthew 28:6, KJV
Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus. It is Easter Sunday.
Christianity is a religion centered around resurrection. Without the resurrection, we have no hope. This is why this is the most important holiday, in my opinion, for Christians.
The dark side of this central feature of our faith is an expectation of resurrection for every sin-ravaged marriage.
We ought to know better, though.
The first resurrection was not expected by the disciples. This was not how things were supposed to play out as they clearly thought. Their expectations were definitely unmet.
I think this is instructive.
It is not that I am against marriage resurrections. Obviously, I thank God for the examples of (truly) resurrected marriages that I know.
However, I think resurrection for many of us might come in a more unexpected package. It did for me.
The resurrection of dreams for me manifested only after my divorce. God took a very dark experience and transformed my life into the life I have today. He resurrected dreams I thought died with my marriage.
It was unexpected.
However, that–too–is a resurrection. And I am grateful for it.
I wonder what and how God will bring resurrection in your life?
In my case, our marriage was “dead” but my husband suddenly had a change of heart and dropped the divorce. Even though he is still dead in sin, the Lord instructed me to endure to the end. I’m hoping & praying for his salvation 🙏
Thanks, D. M.
Happy Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 🙂 To God (Jaweh) be the Glory. Praise the Lord. Amen!
