Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.
-Matthew 10:29, NIV
My heart is full of gratitude!
Mrs. DM grew up with parrots as a child. To be more specific, she owned cockatiels. One of things I have learned after marrying her was that she prefers parrots to dogs as pets.
So, a couple years ago, we rescued our first two parrots. They are the little Green Cheek Conures. These guys might be small, but they have BIG personality and generally rule the “roost.” They are also the most cuddly of the parrots.
Next, we picked up a Jardine parrot. He is the largest but most timid of our parrots. This is my buddy. He will call for me and find me upstairs. It feels good to be so wanted.
Finally, I allowed Mrs. DM to pick up one more conure. He was in a bad rescue situation and has since made a great transition to our flock. This buddy is Mrs. DM buddy. He may be naked because of years of neglect, but he is now getting and giving love.
We are so blessed to have these creatures in our lives. I am convinced God intended for humans to have pets or animals surrounding them. They remind us of God’s love for us, in my opinion. What a wonderful reminder. I know I am grateful for the daily reminder of love these creatures communicate to me.
Dearest DM & FiestyPants!
I am ‘late to the party’ as usual! Love this post about pets & birds. Just awesome you both have cared for these critters this way.
I also love birds very much, but have had limited opportunities to care for them. Amazing creatures, for sure. We are supposed to be their care-givers, but mankind has far too often messed up in caring for all of the animal creation.
Remember that one of the main assignments our Creator, Jehovah, gave Adam (and all of us) back in the Garden of Eden was to care for all the critters, whether furred, feathered, fined, scaled or otherwise.
At one point years ago, my son requested we get a bird for a pet. New to me, as I had never cared for a bird. (In addition to the pups & gerbils) Now, mind you, this precious son of mine was fully vested in caring for any & all critters we brought into our lives, so I was not worried…… We did indeed adopt a precious feathered friend to add to the menagerie & he brought so much joy to all of us. Yes, even to the (now)-ex. (The ex actually had a special bond with this tiny feathered ball of joy)
I believe that one of the most joyful & satisfying of our privileges in life is that of caring for critters & enjoying their companionship.
All during my trials & tribulations in connection with now-ex, I had the joy of caring for several pups. On my daily walks with my Great Danes, I prayed, cried, screamed & rejoiced. Those precious pups were my life-line in many ways. I also cared for other critters during that time. Or, did they care for me? (Sorta like Mr. Pickles cared for DM during his trials)
To this day, I thank our Grand Creator every day for the special privilege we all have of caring for and bonding with the animal creation.
As I often tell my precious son: “These critters give more to us than we ever give to them” and he fully agrees, due to his own experience. Thank you both so much for sharing this with us…..
May we do all we can to give our very best to other people & to the precious critters
