Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-Exodus 20:14, KJV
In some Christian circles, the only unpardonable sin in a marriage is filing for divorce. Everything else might be frowned upon but does not receive the vitriol from the pulpit that choosing divorce does.
Such priorities are evidence of idolatry as this is not how God treats the sin of adultery or divorce from a cheater.
When something takes higher priority than God takes it, then we are allowing something other than God to direct our steps. In other words, we are worshipping some sort of idol.
Many Christian churches worship some sort of sub-cultural idol as it pertains to adultery and divorce.
God certainly has a high view of marriage. However, that view is not so high as to treat divorce as worse than committing adultery. After it all, “Thou shalt not divorce” did not make the Ten Commandments; rather, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” did!
