“I know she cheated. But what you need to do is pursue her like Christ did His Bride, the Church,” says naive Christian leader.
The pursuit advice is trash.
In my opinion, the last thing a narcissistic adulteress needs is more suitors fawning over her. She does not need to be treated as the prize as her victim is further put upon to pursue her.
Would we dispense this advice to a spouse with a black-eye given to them by their partner?
I hope not.
Safety is the number one thing that we ought to consider. Is the faithful spouse safe? Have they gotten tested for STIs? Are they aware of their financials?
Pursuing the abuser ought never to come up in that conversation.
I think it is incredibly spiritually abusive to set this expectation for faithful spouses using Jesus as the justification. It adds guilt and shame to a difficult situation where the proper and healthy response is outrage at the adulterous abuse.
