There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
-Proverbs 12:18, KJV
Cheaters are often very cruel to their spouses.
Besides the whole soul rape part, these characters are known to attend couples therapy or pastoral Care sessions only to beat up upon the faithful spouse emotionally.
Cheating on the other spouse isn’t enough. They have to exact further damage. It is sick.
Some will string a faithful spouse along leading them to believe they have a chance at “saving” the marriage, but the reality is the cheater is continuing to cheat the whole time.
The honest thing would be to choose divorce up front. The honest thing is to admit this choice is ungodly. The honest thing is to own up to one’s treacherous behavior.
But cheaters don’t do “honest.”
Because this is the case, the path to divorce is often times a very exercise in torture for the faithful spouse. “Kind” is not a word to describe the process.
That is one fruit of the Spirit conspicuously absent from the cheater along the pathway to divorce, at least, in my experience.
