Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-Exodus 20:14, KJV
I wonder how this commandment has become second fiddle to couples’ counseling “wisdom” for so many pastors.
So much time goes into the “why” of the cheating and little time is spent on pointing out the willful nature of the sin. In other words, pastors can be tempted to blame (marriage) circumstances and not the sinner choosing the sin for the sin.
Why would God command us not to commit adultery if God believed we were mere victims of marriage circumstances?
The truth is we are not mere victims. We can choose to either honor our marriage vows or violate them. God expects us to do the former and eschew the later.
Adultery is not excusable behavior. It is sin.
