Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron….
-I Timothy 4:2, KJV
Hypocritical liars will deceive many, and their consciences won’t bother them at all!
-I Timothy 4:2, TPT
While this verse is really about false teachers leading people astray, I think it applies to cheaters as well.
This verse reminds us that not everyone is bothered by morally corrupt behavior. What might trouble our conscience greatly does not bother them in the least. Their conscience has lost sensitivity because it has been desensitized as with a hot iron.
Religious cheaters are a “great” example of this.
It is one thing to cheat. However, religious cheaters take this to another level.
They cheat, AND they lecture their faithful spouse about morality while still lying and cheating.
A healthy conscience would scream back to healthy individuals that this is unacceptable behavior. That is why I think this verse captures a common behavior in cheaters.
Their consciences have become desensitized.
How else can you explain such moralistic lecturing?
