7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
-Galatians 6:7-8, NIV
Reaping Destruction
This is the spiritual outcome for those who indulge in sin. They will not reap life but ultimately death. While things might seem good now, the author of Galatians warns his readers that sowing to the flesh does not end well.
Cheaters might think that they will get away with it. They might even look like they are succeeding, yet…
God won’t be mocked!
They are not so special as to outrun the principles of sowing and reaping. Like gravity, consequences eventually show up despite someone’s denial of this law.
I find comfort in this strangely.
It is comforting to know that God is just. That the world He created operates on a system of justice. It is comforting to know that wrong doing–i.e. sowing to the flesh–does not result in a free pass.
That said, it is also a bit chilling.
This law reminds me to behave in a way that I sow to the spirit and not the flesh in my own life. It works on all of us.
