Will you have faith in the coming Light?

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

-Hebrews 11:6, NIV

When our worlds are blown up and we feel like all is darkness, we are faced with a choice:

Do I believe the Light is coming or do I give into the darkness of despair?

Circumstances can change overnight. We know this on a visceral level from how our worlds changed with one awful discovery moment.

Everything changed in that moment.

While this is true of that dark moment, it is also true about a movement of God. In one moment, God can move and transform our lives into something beyond our wildest, positive imaginations (see Ephesians 3:20).

I can testify to this positive reality.

My world was blown up. I had no real prospects of a job to support my needs. It was looking like I would have to abandon my profession, and my cheater was using my over-investment in staying married to her to jerk me around emotionally.

Then God moved.

I got into a training program for chaplains practically overnight. That went well. Then I miraculously got into a year-long chaplain residency back in my home state. That is just a few examples from my professional life.

God is a good bet.

It may be dark today. But that does not mean the darkness wins. You never know when the sun will breakthrough making a glorious dawn. I didn’t.

Yet I know our God delights in taking naturally hopeless situations like ours and showing up with power. He shows Himself faithful to those who put their faith in Him.
