When going through a divorce from a cheater, I would caution against trusting someone overly fixated on hearing your “confession.”
Confessing one’s sins is a highly vulnerable thing to do. Not everyone deserves to have such access to your heart. Some “Christians” are not ashamed to weaponize that information against you.
Be wise.
The person interested in “your part” of the sin in the marriage generally speaking is not a wise “friend.” This interest is just a short step away from blaming you for being sinned against–namely, for bringing on the adultery or the divorce discard. That is not biblical.
We are not accountable for another’s sin (see 2 Corinthians 5:10).
When dealing with a church culture or “counseling” culture laser-focused on identifying your sin in the marriage, I would encourage you to be guarded and finding another community. That is very dangerous community in which to be vulnerable.
