Disgraced, former Hillsong pastor, Carl Lentz, was allegedly involved in committing adultery for years!

In fact, I probably would rather categorize these relationships as Clergy Sexual Abuse as he is alleged to have been sleeping with members of his own church since 2017! This is ugly.

All of this demonstrates why “Taking Adultery Seriously” remains a controversial and important message to keep hammering here!

I wonder why Hillsong is only now firing him. Did they think all those past allegations were false? It begs the question as to what suddenly made his behavior unacceptable if they knew of this behavior back in 2017 as the story alleges (see here).

There has to be more to this story.

Regardless, it is sickening that Clergy Sexual Abuse was (allegedly) happening and Hillsong (allegedly) tolerated it for years. This is not a good look for evangelical Christians.

I suspect the allegations are true.

Power has a way of protecting itself. My suspicion is that Lentz was not held accountable because he was too “successful,” and they did not want to touch the “golden child.”

This is not a new phenomenon. It is just sad, though, as it leads to a wide berth of destruction in its wake.

I am glad they did terminate his employment as an appropriate response to such moral failure. Plus, I am still hopeful for Lentz as he did take responsibility for his sins. We will see with time if this was real or just image management at work.
