When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
-John 8:12, NIV
If we claim that we share life with him, but keep walking in the realm of darkness, we’re fooling ourselves and not living the truth.
-I John 1:6, TPT
Can a cheater continuing cheating and remain a Christian?
These verses suggest otherwise. The lies and betrayal of infidelity are not compatible with walking in the light.
Jesus is clear that those who are walking with Him do not walk in the darkness. They walk in the light.
Unrepentant cheating is walking in the dark, NOT the light.
Now, I am not claiming to the know with certainty the eternal destination of cheaters. What I am pointing out are verses that ought to give cheaters pause, spiritually. The spiritual peril to their souls is real.
I wonder how many pastors and Christian counselors are willing to lay out these verses to a harden cheater. They do not have to “convict” but merely point out their behavior is walking in the darkness. That is good counsel.
Cheaters are free to choose to walk in the darkness. What they are not free to do is get a pass from God for this behavior. God is not fooled by their antics.
As I John 1:6 states, cheaters are just fooling themselves when they continue in their deceptive, cheating ways while claiming God is fine with them.
My soon to be ex-wife, who is now an unrepentant adulteress, used to be a staunch christian. These days she says she is uncomfortable calling herself a “christian” and instead prefers to refer to herself as a “Christ follower”. What the heck is the difference and what does the distinction do for her in her darkened mind ?
Who knows? It generally isn’t a good idea to try and read a cheater’s mind. Regardless, you can rest assured that the “Christ” she is following isn’t the Christ of the Bible.
