On an angry God

God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

-Psalm 7:11, KJV

Do we really want to follow a deity that never gets angry?

I do not think so. Such is a deity who is incapable of real love. Such is a deity unmoved by injustice. Such is a deity out of touch with our lives.

This really has come into focus with the current matters happening in Minneapolis these days. A godly man, George Floyd, was murdered by a cop. I have no doubt God is angry over this gross injustice.

I bring this up as I feel like many of the people “protesting” and virtue-signalling now are the same crowd who tell, us, faithful spouses to be “forgiving.” They push an image of God that is far from angry with their adulterous abuser.

That is not a loving deity.

It is no more loving to tell a faithful spouse to forgive and “get over it” (without consequence or repentance from the cheater) than it is to do the same to the African American community burned by this latest display of gross injustice.

I am grateful God does get angry over wicked behavior.

I am thankful God sees what happened (and is happening) in Minneapolis and will not turn a blind eye.

I am grateful God gets angry over all sorts of injustices and wickedness.

That is a good God.

That is a God worthy of trust.

Anything less is neither.
