Satire “Sermon” on Adultery

If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

-Deuteronomy 22:22, KJV

When adultery is committed, it hits the whole community. This is how the Bible teaches on this matter.

Adultery is not a private matter.

It impacts the whole community. As is the point of quoting this verse from Deuteronomy, adultery impacts a whole nation, Israel.

In a more modern take, I am sharing a satire that makes this point about how adultery harms a community. This “sermon” was given to me by a fellow pastor.

This is a classic from Garrisson Keiller entitled, “Letter from Jim:”

  1. It’s really too bad Garrison Keillor didn’t let those words sink into his own heart as he read them. Three wives, two workplace affairs, one $16k NDA, and dozens of independently verified sexual harassment claims prove just how fictitious and hypocritical his radio personality really was. 😒
