21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.
-Mark 7:21-22, NLT
“Experts” sometimes suggest treating cheating as a symptom of problems in the marriage. That isn’t biblical.
Jesus is crystal clear where adultery originates:
The heart of the adulterous spouse.
It is evil per Jesus’ own words. This wickedness is not a fruit of a dysfunctional marital relationship. That is NOT how Jesus treats adultery.
The issue is someone allowing adultery to come forth from the evil thoughts in their heart.
You see, plenty people have difficult marriages yet never cheat. A missing ingredient in at play. That ingredient is the sinner giving into the temptation to sin.
Cheaters decide to cheat at some point. They give into temptation. It really has nothing to do with marital circumstances.
A person of character keeps their solemn vows. They do not blame circumstances or others if they fail to do so.
